THE COMPANY AND SITUATION:
One of the biggest names in the world of professional services requires those skilled in Data Modelling for their Business Intelligence Team. The role is in an advisory team that supplies financial modelling and related services to a wide client base in a variety of industry sectors.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY "DATA MODELLING?"
So what do we mean by "Data Modelling" here as opposed to, for example, Financial Modelling? The definition of Data Modelling in the context of this role is manipulating large quantities of data and using it for such tasks as creating dashboards, decision support, evaluating metrics, pivot tables, etc.
For their Data Modelling/Data Services offering, they are building technical solutions on a SQL Server platform to supply such services as Data analysis & reporting, cubing (OLAP/B.I. context), integration services, Data Capture/Extraction, Data Validation, Data mapping & transformation, Data migration and the Development of statistical and financial models.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The experience required for this role is as follows:
• At least some knowledge or experience of SQL Server
• Extensive Data Modelling experience, of the type described above
• A combination of both business and I.T. skills: A wide business background, with the knowledge to challenge client requirements and help businesses develop using I.T., as opposed to a purely technical background
• Previous experience in Business Intelligence, gathering requirements and delivering Business Intelligence solutions
• Demonstrable experience in team leading and team management
Please note the above experience is essential - you require all of the above to be eligible for this role.
The absolute ideal profile of candidate for this position would be the accountant who has found themselves moving into more I.T. technical roles. If you were a Systems Accountant, who then perhaps moved into Implementation Consultancy, maybe implementing financial systems for a software house, that would be fantastic.
Desirable, though not essential, are experience in any of the following:
• .Net skills sufficient to build user forms
• Data Warehousing/Data Marts
• OLAP
• Business Objects (BusinessObjects)
• Cognos products
• Cognos Impromptu or Powerplay
• Essbase
• Arbor
• Micro Strategy DSS (MicroStrategy)
• Hyperion
• Knowledge of Corporate or Project Finance
Please note that this is NOT a pure Data Warehousing position, the Data Warehousing skills would simply be a useful bonus. Those whose background lies solely or predominantly in software development or data warehousing are not suitable, I'm afraid.
THE ROLE:
In this role, you would be an advisor or data analysis practitioner leading and managing the supply of specialist data analysis and modelling services (of the sort described above) to existing clients.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
So why work here? Simple! This team aims to be the best in the market. How will they achieve that? By attracting and retaining the best people. How will they do that? By creating an environment for you where you can learn, progress, be fulfilled and even…. Have fun!
