THE COMPANY AND SITUATION:
One of the biggest names in the world of professional services has a requirement for a Consultant to join their Asset Management advisory team to focus on one of two areas: Assurance Controls such as SAS70, or Investment Performance measurement such as GIPS. Ideal candidates would be coming from EITHER the internal audit function of an asset management firm, OR from an audit firm focussing on asset management. Regrettably, those coming from Corporate or Investment Banking are deemed unsuitable.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The following experience and attributes are essential in order to be eligible for this role:
EITHER:
• Experience in Performance Measurement in Asset Management along with an understanding of GIPS
OR:
• Experience in Assurance Controls in Asset Management along with an understanding of SAS70 and/or AAF01/06
PLUS:
• Degree or equivalent
• At least four years of experience in Asset Management
• Understanding of risk management within firms from both practice and theory
• Ability to design, create and write policies and reporting frameworks
• Broad product and market knowledge in areas such as: fund management, fund administration, custody, hedge funds, REIT
• Willingness to travel
• Knowledge of global investment performance – what’s going on in the world of investments?
Desirable, but not essential, is an ACA, ACCA, CIA or similar accreditation.
PLEASE NOTE: The ‘Performance Measurement’ referred to above means experience in looking internally at a firm’s own funds, NOT ‘Performance Analysis’, the external evaluation of other fund managers. The latter is unsuitable for this role.
THE ROLE:
The Asset Management team delivers advisory and assurance services to clients in the asset management and funds industry. Services include providing advice in relation to investment performance calculation, reporting and assurance, services relating to Global Investment Performance Standards and review of internal controls frameworks including AAF01/06 and SAS70.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
So why work here? For starters, how about job security! Despite the oft-cited current economic climate, this division is growing and wants to double in size over the next three years! There is most certainly the “head room†to grow here; no glass-ceiling, they need more partners in this team over the next three years – will it be you? The aim here is always to develop long-term relationships with clients, so consultants tend to get to know clients very well. Expand your skills set here – this is a very collegiate, focussed environment, very much a ‘people firm’, where you can learn and grow. Projects tend to be larger and more strategic than niche competitors. Clients are long-term but engagements tend to be relatively short, so although there is travel with this role, you won’t be stuck away from home for months at a time.
