THE COMPANY AND SITUATION:
A leading international provider of critical support services for public authorities and corporate organisations has just won a prestigious contract to supply Soft Facilities Management Services ("Soft FM") to hospitals in Middlesex. They now require an Operations Director with the experience and ability to move this situation forward to the operational phase and the highest standards of delivery whilst still producing the required profit margin. This is a highly commercial position with full P&L responsibility. For this purpose presence, leadership, charisma and interpersonal skills are arguably as important as technical knowledge and relevant sector experience. Can you interface with senior clients and manage their expectations?
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The essential experience required for this role is as follows:
• At least 10 years of experience in delivering services to the Public Sector, at least some of which must have been Soft Facilities Management Services
• At least some of this experience must have been whilst employed by the private sector. Our preference is for someone with experience in supplying services TO the Public Sector FROM a private sector service provider
• Demonstrable experience in implementing quality initiatives, be it external quality accreditation or internal quality initiatives
• Experience of team management
• Experience of budget management, P&L responsibility, delivering to profit margin
• Experience of client management – building relationships with senior clients and consequently managing their expectations
Please note the above experience is essential. You require all of the above to be eligible for this role. It would be an advantage to you if you possess health care sector experience in addition.
THE ROLE:
The fundamentals of this role are very clearly defined. Your objective here is to define a clear operational plan to take delivery standards from where they are now to a standard which is consistent with the best within the NHS and reflects the requirements of the company and the client. There are three tasks inherent in this: Manage your employer to ensure they do what’s required on a central basis. Manage the senior clients in terms of their expectations and keeping them briefed. Manage a mobilisation team to deliver the required services and take this forward into the operational phase.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
So why do this? Why give up your current job to come and do this one? For the vast, compelling opportunities here, that’s why! Firstly, the realistic next step career-wise for this person is to move in to regional management. This company has robust growth plans and they see the successful candidate as one of the key players in taking that forward. They are seeking someone who wants to develop their career within the company, someone who will see this as a career rather than a job. Turnover has tripled over the past 2-3 years, hence the opportunity for personal growth and development has increased tenfold due to increased service provision, both volume and range, into different markets. If you want to move into, for example, Hard FM, or to look at other markets like PFI or LIFT, the opportunities are there within the current business and they would encourage this. Finally, how about Financial Security? This is a FTSE100 company with turnover in the billions and half a million staff worldwide.
